In making committee appointments in ALA I have the advice and counsel of two committees. The Committee on Appointments advises the ALA President-Elect on appointments to ALA Committees. These committees are distinct from Council Committees. The Committee on Committees advises the ALA President-Elect on appointments to Council Committees.
This may seem bureaucratic and redundant to some ALA members. However this system assures that major constituencies have representation and advocates in the process-the members of ALA's divisions through the Committee on Appointments and all ALA members through the Committee on Committees. Members who want to know more about the distinctions between Council and ALA committees should see Article VIII of the ALA Bylaws. The ALA Web site lists the committees in each category.
